If you or a family member have a medical emergency and are in need of anointing, please contact the Spiritual Care Department of the hospital you are in; there is always a priest on call. Sacraments should be requested when a patient is first aware of his/her serious illness. No one should wait until death is imminent and the patient is unconscious. It is also suggested that the patient receive the anointing before discharge to their home or hospice home. Anointing is an important part of the healing process as it aids physical healing and offers spiritual strength during illness.
